Manager of Network Relations and Communications

The Manager of Network Relations and Communications is responsible for fostering engagement with local United Ways in order to strengthen the Ohio United Way network. The incumbent has three principal areas of responsibility, including: developing and implementing network relations, expanding and promoting resource sharing and development, and coordinating communications and marketing programs.

Network Relations:

The incumbent is responsible for:

  • Developing programs and services to address the needs of local United Ways in the state by focusing on building capacity and promoting inter-connectivity within the network.
  • Serving as a partner, advisor, and resource in the work of local United Ways, including the standards and practices set by United Way Worldwide.
  • Cultivating and building personal relationships with the chief executive and staff of local member United Ways.
  • Guiding membership strategies, including maintaining a database of local United Ways, their work and activities.


Resource Sharing and Development:

The incumbent is responsible for:

  • Working with the chief executive and resource development staff of local United Ways to develop, implement, and administer grants and projects that support the mission and expand the capability of local United Ways to increase giving in their communities.
  • Coordinating statewide projects, such as voluntary tax preparation program, in which local United Ways can participate.
  • Exploring opportunities for the coordination of backroom business operations and sharing of resources between local United Ways and with Ohio United Way.
  • Serving as project manager for special initiatives and programs targeted at increasing collaboration and cooperation between local United Ways.


Communications and Marketing Programs:

The incumbent is responsible for:

  • Developing a practice and pattern of regular communication with membership, targeting leaders and key staff of local member United Ways, both collectively and individually.
  • Maintaining multiple forms of communications with the statewide network, including email, social media, website, and emerging platforms, while developing fresh and engaging content specific to local United Way members, stakeholders, external partners, and the general public.
  • Producing news releases and information that promotes the work of the Ohio United Way statewide network, and its achievement and successes.
  • Working with a variety of media outlets to develop earned media for the network.

 

Reporting

The position reports to and works at the direction of the President & CEO.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree; exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including strong social media and web-based communications background; 3+ years of professional experience; high analytical and critical thinking skills; self-starter; able to exercise independent judgment and work efficiently with minimal supervision; highly organized; detail-oriented; proficient in MS Office.

Preferred: Experience in client or member services; communications, relationship building; knowledge of nonprofit business; experience in public speaking and facilitation; background with United Way.
